Nexus Dashboard Fabric Controller
Company: Cisco
NOTICE: Beginning with Nexus Dashboard 3.1, a single software image (.ova or .iso) provides all the services needed (such as Orchestrator, Insights, Fabric Controller and integrations). Independent application installation for services and integrations is no longer needed nor supported. Cisco recommends to upgrade to the latest Nexus Dashboard versions.

The world of data centers is changing rapidly. Businesses are being faced with the ever-growing complexity of handling data in multiple locations and growth is happening at an accelerating pace, pushing the scalability limits of data center environments. Growing data centers that span on-premise and cloud boundaries, require an easy to use, agile, and scalable end-to-end lifecycle automation toolchain. Cisco® is excited to introduce the next generation of Cisco Data Center Network Manager (DCNM): Nexus Dashboard Fabric Controller (NDFC) which provides complete automation, extensive visibility, and consistent operations for data centers.
Cisco NDFC 12 is fully integrated with the Nexus Dashboard, enabling a novel user experience and intuitive UI that simplifies and enhances the solution while providing the enhanced capabilities of DCNM. NDFC provides end-to-end automation for data centers, reducing the complexities and costs of operating multiple fabric types such as Virtual Extensible LAN (VXLAN) networks, Layer 3 routed networks, traditional 3-tier virtual private cloud (VPC) designs, and IP Fabric for Media networks. NDFC can also be transformed to a SAN Controller to manage storage networks with Cisco MDS multilayer SAN switches and Nexus switches.
As scale and performance are essential for growing deployments, NDFC moves away from a pseudo-monolithic DCNM 11.x architecture to a complete cloud-native microservices based scale-out architecture to manage large data centers distributed across multiple sites. NDFC includes a built-in feature manager allowing selective enabling or disabling of different features and feature-sets comprising Fabric Controller (LAN), SAN Controller, IP Fabric for Media, and Fabric Discovery at run time. Large networks require efficient maintenance and NDFC’s fully redesigned image management makes upgrades, downgrades, patch management, and firmware upgrades easier to deploy and less time consuming. This evolution of NDFC will empower IT to move to the latest releases at the increasing speed required for continuous business growth.
Cisco NDFC Release 12.0 runs on the Nexus Dashboard platform and is supported on both the virtual and physical Nexus Dashboard form factors
